Over Four Thousand Insurance Jobs Gained in July, Report Says

Leading Insurance Career Site, InsuranceJobs.com Shares Insurance Employment Trends from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report

The insurance industry added 4,400 jobs in July, according to the Economic Situation Report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on August 5, 2016.

The insurance carriers and related activities subsector now sits at 2,606,100 employed persons, a 0.17 percent increase over June’s employment number. Over the past 12 months, the number of employed insurance workers has increased 2.2 percent from 2,552,300 in July 2015.

Last month, the unemployment rate increased to 2.9 percent from 2.0 percent in June. Over the past year, the unemployment rate has jumped from 1.6 percent to 2.9 percent.

The insurance carriers and related activities subsector consists of professions that underwrite annuities and insurance policies or facilitates the underwriting by selling insurance policies and related services. This includes claims adjusters, examiners and investigators; office managers, supervisors, and administrative support workers; insurance claims and policy processing, insurance sales agents, and insurance underwriters.

Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 255,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9 percent. Last month, job growth mostly occurred in professional and business services, healthcare, and leisure and hospitality.
